The SOPUDEP seniors that graduated in 2014 (self-named the "Phoenix Club") began getting involved in community service in high school after witnessing high schoolers from LAHS on service trips. They realized that it was never too early to start giving back, and you are never too young to make a change. So the senior class began fundraising for various community projects, the biggest of which being volunteering at an elderly home. But while there, they realized the biggest thing needed at these homes was supplies: clothing, medication, and basic toiletries. They began fundraising for organizations and projects like this in high school and have continued ever since.

Now, four years after they have graduated, they are still focused as ever on giving back. On May 17-18 the Phoenix Group organized a massive cultural fair at the CESAH school. The fair featured DJs, drinks, and authentic Haitian food and crafts. All the vendors paid to rent out spaces and all of the work and most of the food was donated to help raise funds for the elderly home outside of Port au Prince.

With some of the funds from our donors we were able to contribute to the effort, sponsoring the shirts and flyers for the event. It was awe inspiring to witness so many young adults who have SO much going on in their lives and a million and one problems of their own to worry about, come together to create such a beautiful event. Another goal of the fair was to make it actually affordable to the every day Haitian, so that everyone could get the opportunity to savor and enjoy all of the incredible things Haitian culture has to offer. It was an incredible two days of love, appreciation, and community and Haiti Solidarity is so thankful to our donors to have helped us contribute to the effort.
