A huge shout out to our pen pal partners at Covington Elementary School in Los Altos, California! Throughout the quarter 28 of their 5th grade students have been exchanging letters with 20 of the students and teachers at CESAH. This has proved an incredible opportunity for the kids to learn a little about each other's lives. All of them were so interested, and surprised, to discover a new friend just like them all around the world. It really helped them to see that separated by oceans, economic and cultural differences, they are really no different from each other. They all want more recess, less class, love spending time with their family, and show a genuine love for school. You can check out all of our pen pals an their interests here!
The students of Covington Elementary decided to raise money year round to support a summer camp for the students of CESAH. Running from July to August this summer (2019), the camp will serve over 100 children and give them access to
- Camp T-Shirts
- 1 Small Snack a Day
- Swimming
- Language Classes (Spanish, English, French)
- Crafts Classes
- Sports (Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball)
- Playground
The students at CESAH and SOPUDEP are beyond excited to have this opportunity, and it is made even more special by the fact that it was made possible by their pen pals! Covington held various fundraisers: selling hot chocolate in the winter, selling duct tape to tape their principle to the ball wall, and one student even asked for donations instead of presents at his birthday party! As this summer comes closer, the students of Covington set an example we should all strive for: to go above and beyond for those so alike you, but with fewer opportunities.
